Sunday, December 15 will see one of the highest-rated Xbox console exclusives, Forza Horizon 4, delisted from digital storefronts. Xbox confirmed the bad news about Forza Horizon 4 months ago, but now that the day is nearly upon us, those interested in securing a digital copy of the game will need to act fast.
Forza Horizon 4 was released in 2018 for PC and Xbox One to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Forza Horizon 4 earned an impressive 92 overall rating at the time of its release, solidifying it as one of the highest-rated Xbox console exclusives of all time. Considering how beloved Forza Horizon 4 is, it's definitely heartbreaking that the game is being delisted from digital storefronts.

On December 15, the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate versions of Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from all digital storefronts. From that point forward, Xbox gamers will no longer be able to buy one of the platform's highest-rated console exclusive games digitally. Instead, any potential newcomers will have to buy a physical copy of the game. And once the game is delisted, it's likely that the physical versions will go up in price. Anyone that wants to secure a digital copy of the game is running out of time to do so. It's currently available for a mere $11.99 for the Standard Edition, $15.99 for the Deluxe Edition, and $19.99 for the Ultimate Edition for those with Xbox Game Pass, though that particular Forza Horizon 4 deal expires on December 2.
Forza Horizon 4's delisting on December 15 comes months after the game's DLC was delisted. All of Forza Horizon 4's DLC was delisted on June 25, keeping gamers from accessing a wide variety of cars, add-ons, and most importantly, the game's expansion packs. Both the Fortune Island and LEGO Speed Champions DLC were well-regarded by the community, but they are no longer available to purchase digitally.
The good news is that some Xbox gamers may already own a digital copy of Forza Horizon 4 without even realizing it. Forza Horizon 4's availability through Xbox Game Pass meant some Xbox gamers were able to access the base game without buying it. However, they may have been tempted to buy DLC for the game, which was not included with Game Pass. Xbox actually gave away free copies of Forza Horizon 4 to those that owned the game's expansion packs, and so Xbox gamers should check their inboxes or their libraries to see if they already have Forza Horizon 4.
Forza Horizon 4's online functionalilty will remain operational even after the game is delisted on December 15.
Regardless, it's sad that Forza Horizon 4 is being delisted. Forza Horizon 5 will eventually suffer the same fate, though fans shouldn't have to worry about that for a few more years. As for why Forza Horizon 4 and games like it are regularly delisted, it has to do with expiring licenses related to things like the car brands and music featured in the games. Ultimately, this means that the problem with games like this getting delisted is unlikely to ever fully go away.
